Solving the Mystery of Love
[wpv-post-taxonomy type="variant" format="name"] # [types field='ep'][/types]
The Soul Empowerment team has covered the subject of Love in a couple of previous episodes—“What Would Love Do Now?”, “Embracing Self-Love”—and as a result of these conversations, a question has come up: what exactly IS Love anyway? Is it a thought? Is it a feeling? Is it an emotion? Is it something else entirely? Judging by the countless ways that philosophers and poets—and yes, even scientists—have written about it, one thing we all seem to agree on: Love is unquestionably an enigmatic force!
Love transcends cultural boundaries, defies logical explanations, and eludes most attempts to capture its essence in a neat and comprehensible definition. At its core, Love encompasses a wide range of emotions, from the euphoria of infatuation to the enduring commitment of long-term partnerships. But clearly, Love goes beyond simple emotions. It is flavored with passion, intimacy, and profound connection, and it seems to encompass many other qualities—compassion, forgiveness, and gratitude quickly come to mind—yet its true nature remains elusive.
In this episode of Soul Empowerment, we pose the question “What is Love?” and see if we can find a way to solve—or at least come to grips with—the mystery of this most amazing human experience. Here are some of the ideas we discuss:
What is Love?
One of the most common questions throughout the ages has been “What is love?” We all seem to know it when we experience it, but how can we be sure? How do we know it when we see it? How do we know where or how to find it? Is it a feeling or emotion, or is it a state of being?
The Power of Love
Very often when people are asked why they do certain things, when they get right down to the core of their answer, they say “I did it for Love.” Love has moved people to travel thousands of miles or search for decades. People have been asked—and have often agreed—to perform incredible feats to show their Love. Indeed, everything that people think, say, do or feel is motivated at its deepest level by a desire to give or receive love. This may not seem obvious at first, but becomes clear upon deep reflection.
What Forms Does Love Take?
Some people think that the opposite of Love is hate. But is that really true? And what about other human qualities, like empathy, compassion, forgiveness, and even gratitude—how do they relate to Love?
Honoring Boundaries
Boundaries provide a physical representation of acceptable limits, and they are ultimately created out of a sense of self-love or love of another. Boundaries are fluid, however, and can change from moment to moment. You might say “Yes” in this moment, and “No” in the next. It is important to honor boundaries from the perspective of right now.
The Healing Power of Love
When we examine Love closely, we can see that it is, by its very nature, unconditional. The notion of “unconditional love” only exists because of our ego-mind’s propensity to withhold love whenever we perceive any kind of threat to our well-being. But when we drop from the ego-mind down into the heart and soul, the fear dissipates and we regain our grounded center—where unconditional love actually exists.

Ultimately, the mystery of love is a testament to the depth and richness of the human experience. It is a force that transcends the boundaries of time and space, leaving its indelible mark on hearts and souls we encounter. Maybe the song is true… Maybe all you need is love.
