Despicable Me?
Soul Empowerment Episode # 28
Do you recognize any of these thoughts?
- Why did I do that?
- How stupid, thoughtless, cowardly (fill in the blank with a harsh reprimand) could I have been?
- Why can’t I do anything right?
Lots of people have thoughts like these, so just know that you are not alone! But for everyone, this type of negative self-assessment and self-judgment can not only delay but also squelch our joy and wellness! In this episode, the Soul Empowerment Team share valuable tips for flipping this script.
Please watch the video—and remember to leave a comment in the section below! Enjoy!
No Mistakes; No Regrets
What if there were no such thing as mistakes? How can we find a life beyond regret? As we expand our spiritual awareness, we often find new perspectives that enable us to live and move through life in a more uplifting way. Let’s consider, for example, gateways to acceptance, compassion, and forgiveness, all of which bring more joy to our “human condition”.
Acceptance
Sometimes the biggest challenge of all is simply to accept all of life as it is. This requires a release of expectation and attachment, and it frees us to see things as they are, which in turn allows us to notice what—if anything—we want to change.
Compassion
As we look back on any event, we have the advantage of seeing how our actions played out, and we can recognize both positive and negative consequences. If we real-eyes (see with new awareness) that we were doing the best we could with what we know, it can be easier to forgive that past-tense self. Otherwise, we’re judging someone that doesn’t know as much as we do where we now stand. Perhaps we made a decision we would not make today. Well, we have learned something!
Forgiveness
Forgiveness is a powerful force in the Universe, and it provides a pathway to self-liberation. When you forgive someone, you release yourself from ideas of judgment and revenge, which opens the space for you to live your life more fully. When you learn to forgive others, you will find it easier to forgive yourself. We often have compassion for everyone but ourselves. This is ironic and even tragic, because the way we see and treat ourselves affects our health and wellbeing. Choose self-love, self-acceptance, and self-forgiveness, and your life will blossom like never before.
Reclaiming Our Perfection
We were each born perfectly into our human imperfections. Realizing that perfection is elusive, we can focus on loving intentions, such as leaving things better than we found them, or being a positive change-agent in our world. Sometimes we’ll succeed and sometimes our results will fall short. Ultimately, what’s in our hearts—that intention in our living and decision making—may ultimately be the biggest measure of our success.
Reviewing past behaviors with a view to expanding, evolving, and growing is a wonderful idea. Feedback is your friend! But don’t allow yourself to become critical or judgmental of yourself. Remember to stay connected to your compassion and forgiveness.
